List of Michigan Scholarships

Students residing in Michigan or students who plan to attend college in Michigan can greatly benefit by researching available Michigan scholarships. Throughout the state, there are numerous scholarships available to Michigan residents or incoming students who will be attending colleges or universities in the state.

One such scholarship in Michigan is the Michigan Merit Award, which is a scholarship available to high school seniors who achieve outstanding scores on aptitude tests such as the ACT or SAT. Recipients are able to earn up to $3,000.

Students may also apply for the MI Competitive Scholarship program. This MI scholarship program is a merit and need based award that offers up to $2,000 for students who demonstrate both financial need and academic accomplishment.

The Tuition Incentive Program offers awards to students who are considered to be at both financial and social risk. Students must agree to attend a college that is state-subsidized for a minimum of two years. To qualify for the award, students must demonstrate significant financial disadvantage and must also have been on Medicaid for a certain period of time. Awards are up to $2,000.

Due to the strong need for nurses in the state of Michigan, scholarships are now available through the Michigan Nursing Scholarship program. This program offers awards of up to $4,000 for each academic year for students who plan to or who are pursuing a nursing degree. Recipients must agree to become employed at a state facility in Michigan after graduating.

The American Legion Department of Michigan Oratorical Contest offers awards of between $600 and $1,000 per academic year for 5 undergraduate Michigan students. Two $500 scholarships are offered. Additional MI scholarships range in award amount from $800 to $20,000. Deadline is January 3rd.

Each year, 72 undergraduate students who attend a college in either Michigan or Indiana receive awards through the College Scholarships for Cancer Survivors program. Awards are between $1,000 and $2,250.

The Dakota Pequeno Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a student who has been able to overcome obstacles presented by epilepsy. This Michigan scholarship is administered by the Epilepsy Foundation of Michigan.

Between 5 and 20 Freshmen students who will be attending college in Michigan and who major in the health care field are awarded Michigan scholarships through the Medical Career Scholarship. Awards are $500 each.

The Michigan Indian Tuition Waiver offers variable amount awards each year to one Native American undergraduate or graduate student who is attending a Michigan college.

Nursing students can apply for $500 awards through the Michigan League for Nursing. The awards are given on an annual basis to 4 sophomore, junior or senior students who attend a Michigan college and who major in nursing.

Scholarships are also available to nursing students through the Michigan Nursing Scholarship. Awards of up to $4,000 are awarded each year to a variable number of undergraduate students who will be attending a Michigan college and also majoring in nursing.

The Warner Norcross and Judd LLP Scholarship for Minority Students awards between $1,000 and $5,000 each year to 3 minority undergraduate or graduate students that attend a Michigan college and majoring in law.

The Michigan Youth Livestock Scholarship offers awards to eligible applicants who are graduating high school and who are a resident of Michigan. Applicants must also be a youth exhibitor at the Michigan State Fair for at least three years before applying. The application deadline is June 17th.

The North American International Auto Show High School Poster Contest is open students in tenth through twelfth grade in high schools in Michigan. The Chairmen’s Award is $1,000. The deadline is November 23rd.

The AQHF Dr. Gerald O’Connor Michigan Scholarship offers awards to Michigan students who are members of the American Quarter Horse Association or the American Quarter Horse Youth Association. Recipients receive a $2,000 4-year scholarship. The application deadline is January 2nd.

The Guy M. Wilson Scholarship is awarded to graduates of high schools in Michigan who are the children or grandchildren of an honorable war-time veteran. Students must attend an accredited college in Michigan. Award amounts are $500. The application deadline is January 17th.

The William D. and Jewell W. Brewer Scholarship Trust is available to residents of Michigan who are the child or grandchild of a war-time veteran. The application deadline is January 17th. Award amounts are $500.

The Michigan Council of Women in Technology Foundation University Scholarship and Research Grant offers awards for one high school senior (4 years, $20,000), one undergraduate student (3 years-$15,000) and one graduate student (3 years-$15,000)
The application deadline is January 31st. Women who will be or who are currently enrolled in university level courses are eligible.

The Gerber Foundation awards scholarships to graduating students from the five school districts located in Newaygo County, Michigan. Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.71 to be eligible. The application deadline is February 28th. Awards are $8,000.

The Rosa L. Parks Scholarship is awarded to high school seniors in Michigan who demonstrate economic need, community involvement, academic skills ideals close to Mrs. Parks. Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 2.5. Scholarships are $2,000. The application deadline is March 1st.
